Bix helped Abby and Otto by giving them robes and hot tea while their clothes dried in the dryer. After the two warmed up, Abby and Cyd prepared to take Otto clothes shopping at Hugoâs and get a bite to eat at a trendy Nilo eatery called Casa Rojo. Supposedly, all the décor in Rojo is made up of every shade of red, with black and white photographs of the planet before it was terraformed as an homage to the once red planet. Everything the trio could want was in Niloâs Chryse District. Avenue Chryse was the heartbeat of Nilokerasâ nightlife. It was packed with numerous clubs with live music, restaurants, clothing stores, beauty salons, Chryse Park, and the destination they came for: Juventae Fons near Marsâ famous Viking Square. Best of all, they were all within walking distance from Bixâs apartment.
Otto was confirming directions with Bix.
âSo Avenue Chryse is only 11 blocks east of here?â Otto asked.
â11 blocks east. Theyâre short blocks. The long blocks go north and south. Just walk east, straight down West City Centre and youâll run right into Viking Square. You canât miss it. Take a right on Avenue Chryse South, walk 2 long blocks south and Rojo is right there on the corner.â
âIs Hugoâs near Casa Rojo?â Abby asked.
âHugoâs? Whoa, who just hit the Mars Lottery?â Bix joked.
âNothingâs too good for our birthsol boy! Heâs getting a makeover before we hit Juventae Fons tonight,â Cyd said as he grabbed Otto by the shoulder.
âThatâs right! It IS your birthsol! I completely forgot,â Bix said smacking himself in the forehead. âHappy birthsol, Otto! I feel awful. I didnât get you anything.â
âBut, Bix, you did. Youâre letting us crash here for the day. Thatâs enough, really.â said Otto.
âThatâs nothing. You guys can crash here anytime! In fact, whatâs stopping you from moving here? Everything you could ever want is here in Nilo! Iâve only been here six weeks and Iâve done more living than I ever did in a lifetime in Bradbury! Lots of clubs, parks, the museums, largest library on Mars, the beaches, you name it! This city is like,â¦likeâ¦â
âLike New York?â Otto asked.
Bix ran through his mental encyclopedia for a moment, then Ottoâs suggestion rang a small bell.
âYes. Yes, Otto. Like New York. I read about that ancient city in Terran history class. New York,â he pondered. âI read that New York was like the Nilokeras of its time, only dirtier,â said Bix.
Nilokeras was extremely clean.
âI donât think it was that dirty, was it?â Otto asked.
âThatâs what my history teacher told me anyway. But seriously, Otto, you should give some thought to relocating. NSTU (Nilokeras Science and Technical University) is on the mainland, just 20 kilometers down the coast. Itâs got the most coveted engineering school in the tri-world system. AND... it has its own beach!â
âYeah, I knowâ¦â Otto said. âBut Iâm doing fine working with my dad. Iâm learning from one of the best in the field of antigravity propulsion technology.â
âBut you wonât have the paper,â Cyd added.
